The BC Bombers!

So here we are just a few weeks out from the first annual home run derby - to benefit AvonWalk.org at Marshwood Highschool. The Field of Dreams Home Run Derby is taking place this month and has already grown into a community event that not only raises money and awareness to fight breast cancer but also brings the community together in a day of celebration. We have had numerous businesses, non profits, and private individuals step up to the plate with generous donations underwrite the day so that nearly 100% of funds raised through the Derby will go directly to AvonWalk.org.

I just recently reached out to a fellow alumni from Traip Academy in Kittery, Maine basically begging him to put a team together to help increase the number of batters that will be competing in the 1st Derby. He was an upper classmen and I wasn't sure if he would even remember who I was. With much surprise and appreciation I received an message back about how he would love to be involved and he would try his best at getting a team of alumni's together for the day. Well, Merle just registered as captain and created The BC Bombers. They are stepping up to the plate and are helping us to save 2nd base.

Team Laffalot is extremely thankful and appreciative of everything that our community has done to support our local team in fighting breast cancer and as we begin our third year with our walk in N.Y.C we will be carrying each and everyone of you with us and feeling your support each step of the way!

THANK YOU Marshall Rental Center!

The 1st Annual Field of Dreams Home Run Derby has a tent! Thanks to Marshall Rental Center in Kittery, fans and participants will have it made in the shade as they enjoy the day of celebrating a good old fashioned home run derby! Wait it doesn't stop there... Marshall is also providing the Derby with a cotton candy, snow cone, and popcorn machine to make the day even better! We have just opened online registrations and now have a handful of batters picking up the challenge who are "in it to end it". Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is an incredibly 501 C fighting to end Breast Cancer. You can help out by attending the day or by being a batter or by spreading the word for us.

...a word from one of our team members

"Not only will this event bring our community together for a family day of baseball, it will educate our community in a small way about breast cancer, how it affects so many people and what we can do when we come together...we make things happen and make a difference!

Our Marshwood baseball players will be able to help out in many ways during the Derby and gain community service hours. On the baseball end, it can show everyone what a great baseball program we have and how passionate the coaches are about the game. It will show all the children that attend how to work as a team (laffalot that is), how unselfish it is to raise money for diseases, and how much fun you can have with your friends, hosting an event that helps others in need! Reaching out and doing something for someone you don't even know touches/opens your heart in ways you can't even imagine...it just plain "makes your heart grow big" :)

I love Team Laffalot....I'm just sayin'...", CMC.
